THE BRIEF
To provide a covered walkway for patients queuing to enter the hospital to receive their Covid vaccine. The canopy needs to provide full protection from above and from the side.
At the end of the lockdown restrictions, The canopy needs to have the ability to be removed or repurposed without leaving any damage to the pavement of the building.
THE CHALLENGES
- The canopy must provide additional side protection from the south-westerly winds and driving rain.
- Build time of one working day, to work around patients waiting for their vaccines
- Canopy to be able to be removed, and repurposed at the end of the vaccine program.
THE SOLUTION
Our Structural Engineer took our existing 10m x 2m structures and ran new calculations to suit the 25m x 2m structure in its location at the hospital with enclosed sides.
Ballast was increased from 160 kg per concrete block to 220 kg to ensure the structure can withstand winds of at least 25m/s.
The sides were produced out of our heavy-duty PVC and then fixed to the frame using a 50mm(d) clamp-on aluminium tube. In this case, the client requested plain blue sides, but we can print these to any design and in any colour. The banners are also very easy to change so if used in a retail environment the banners double as an area for advertising.

23m of Protect Canopies shelters were installed along the side of one of the buildings, providing the perfect protection for patients and allowing everyone to maintain social distancing.
