THE BRIEF
To provide shelter to pupils whilst queuing to collect their lunch. The shelter needs to wrap around the building and provide rain and UV protection. The budget is limited to £10,000 inc VAT and the build time to take place whilst pupils are onsite.
THE CHALLENGES
- No foundations are allowed.
- Build time only from 8am to 5pm allowing for a clean site whilst the children are getting their lunches.
- No wall fixings allowed and canopy has to wrap around the building.
THE SOLUTION
The site was surveyed, and it was established that no off the shelf canopy was going to be suitable. The project was handed over to the design team who created a bespoke freestanding canopy.
The challenge of the budget was overcome very quickly as Protect Canopies do not need groundworks. In most cases these halves the cost of a traditional canopy.
All of our canopies are sited on our unique concrete blocks negating the need for any groundworks or footings. This also speeds up the build enormously. Combine this with our ability to pre-build elements of the canopy before we go on site means a build time of typically just a few hours. In this case, it enabled us to work around the schools preferred timings and the needs of the pupils without having to work nights or during the weekend.
WHAT THE CLIENT THOUGHT
They were very happy with the service, quality and particularly the speed of build and that we were able to deliver the project on budget.
