It’s important to regularly maintain and clean the gutters to ensure their longevity, this can also detect potential issues early on. If the gutters are neglected it can cause them to leak and overflow, causing lots more problems.

Being a canopy specialist, we recommend regular gutter checks to maintain the longevity of the canopy. This regular maintenance may involve working at heights, so essential safety training must be in place for this personnel. Cleaning the canopy at a height can be safely done using powered equipment such as boom lifts, scaffolding or ladders.
How to clean the gutters effectively
Each of the following steps is crucial for the efficient functioning of the canopy.
- Remove all the debris from the roof. This includes twigs, leaves and any other objects that are found on the canopy’s roof. In the winter months, heavy snow build-up can cause severe damage to the gutters as well as falling snow.
- Inspect each of the gutter runs for any twigs, leaves, stones or rocks that may cause damage.
- Make sure the water can flow through the system, checking each fitting that connects to the downpipe. Remove any debris if there is any.
- Is your canopy below or near a tree? Consider leaf guards to stop the leaves from mounting up in the gutter.
- Complete the maintenance with a recheck of the gutters. Clean them thoroughly and flush the gutters with water, washing the roof too so that there’s an effective water flow from the roof to the gutters.
